Greetings Beersuckers! Was referred to the site by a friend and wanted to contribute what limited knowledge I have collected (through pint by pint research).
Tonight I sampled a seasonal from Anheuser- Busch called Winter's Bourbon Cask Ale that I bummed off a buddy of mine that's employed at Budweiser. I guess he was able to get an advance on the winter stock and seeing as it has cooled off a bit here in the south, I decided to give it a try.
Pouring into my trusty Wild Wing pub glass, I noticed a pecan/orange-ish color with a very slight head (which faded fairly quickly). Upon pouring, I detected a strong vanilla scent that most certainly translated through to the finish. Each sip afforded new tastes ranging from hints of bourbon to a sort of oak flavor, most likely attributed to the barrel aging. While the flavors were pronounced at first, this brew left little to no aftertaste.
Now, being the huge "hop-head" that I am, this was certainly a departure from my normal fare but I have to say I was somewhat impressed by such a flavorful beer from a macro-brewery like A-B. I would certainly recommend this as a finisher to dinner (dessert beer) or if you are looking to venture for something different this winter.
Slainte.
