Belhaven Scottish Ale

bellhaven-scottish-ale Price                                    1.99 per 12 ounce bottle ABV                                      5.2% or 3.9% IBU                                       N/A Plato                                     N/A Seasonal                                No Commercial Description: Malty and hoppy, we at Belhaven love the classic Scottish Ale and we've been brewing it longer than any of the other beers we produce. Delivering a sweet, smooth and creamy finish, Scottish Ale has a stunning ruby color in the glass.           Another one of the single purchases from Total Wine and More in Greenville South Carolina. I have had a couple of Scottish ales and they have differed a lot in flavor. The typical Scottish Ale is low hopped and very malty with some smoked malt flavors. The Sam Adams version has a little smoked peat flavor and is very good. Again I do not know what to expect out of this beer but am looking forward to my live review/tasting.          The color is a medium cloudy copper with a thin white head.  The head dissipates quickly away leaving the liquid exposed. A swirl of the glass brings it back in full force but it still departs quickly. The small is very malty and does have a hint of the smoked peat aromas. I do love scotch and the smell of this beer is definitely making me want a shot of a good single malt.         The taste is sweet smokey malts, hardly any alcohol so I believe I got the 3.9% but I am not positive. The flavor has some bread to it, which is to be expected from the high malts, its like taking a sip of scotch and water then a bite of a biscuit. The mouthfeel is smooth and creamy and the finish is very, very light for all the flavors going on. I did enjoy this beer and it is easy to drink. I think there is a Scotch Ale out there that is overwhelming and I am saving myself for it.  Maybe I need to get some cask strength Laphroaig single malt and mix it with this beer.
