Brats and Beer (big D style)

Damas's picture

brats

This is a real simple recipe for Brats and beer.

you will need the following:
1 package of Johnsonville regular Bratwurst (not the flavored kind or with freaking cheese in em)
Here's the link if you need it: [Johnsonville Brats]
1 good beer (you can use a Macro if you want, but the better beer will impart more flavor)
2 teaspoons fresh cracked black pepper
1 teaspoon salt
1 big sweet onion (vidalia if you can get it)
1 or 2 whole garlic cloves (this is optional)
1 pack of hot dog buns
Aluminum foil and or a cheap disposable aluminum pan

Now you can do these on the grill or in the stove if you want. If you use the stove set it to 350 degrees F. You will need to get the grill set up for indirect cooking (charcoal on one side or the gas grill just lit on one side)

Ok, cut up the onion into thick rings and peel the garlic if you are using it. Fashion a pan out of the aluminum foil or if you bought the disposable aluminum pan, get it. Put the Brats in the pan, sprinkle the salt and pepper on them and cover them with the onions and garlic. Open up the beer, drink half of it while the coals are heating up. Pour the rest of the beer over the whole mess and cover it tightly with the aluminum foil.

Oven : put them in for about 35 to 40 minutes.
Grill : Cook over indirect heat for 30 minutes, open the package and pull the Brats out. Place them over the fire for a few minutes on either side. Do not pour out the Onions and beer!

Mix the onions and brats together and serve with buns , spicy mustard and more BEER.
