Commercial Description: "Brooklyn Pennant Ale is a honey colored pale ale with a brisk malt palate and finely balanced hop character. Pennant Ale is a traditional English – style pale ale. Brooklyn Pennant Ale is brewed from Scottish Maris Otter malt, which is justly prized for its toasty, biscuit flavor and the round smoothness it imparts to the beer."

I bought this one in a singles run. I have not had any of the Brooklyn Brewery offerings and am looking forward to this one. If you would like to know more about the styles they offer, click here for their website: Brooklyn Brewery Home

The beer pours an almost bronze color, its very cloudy and has a thin off white head. The smell is light hops with a slight citrus twang. The deeper I breathe it in, I start to get the bready malt that they spoke of in the description. I am a fan of pale ales, but have found that the English style ones have been short on flavor. The American pale ales are usually hopped pretty well and the smell is dictated by them. This one, not so much.

The taste is biscuity and slightly hopped. It stings some as you take a pull but is quickly replaced by the bread flavors. Its mostly malt, just as I expected from the "English style Pale Ale" type of beer. Its got come character but is lacking in the flavors normally associated with the pale ales made in America. I am letting it warm up before I take another pull. I am not really digging the biscuit dipped in beer taste that I am getting from it right out of the fridge. As the beer warms the hops are more evident but the malts still are more than I prefer in a beer. The finish is smooth with very little complexity.

Pack rating (enjoyability): I won't be buying this one again. I would drink it with others if they bought it. There are many better Pale Ales on the market I would prefer to spend my money on.
